Rinea was born into the noble house of Svanenhielm as the youngest daughter of Peter and Ingrid Svanenhielm. Peter and Ingrid had a total of five children, their oldest daughter Magnhild, their middle daughters Freya and Hilda, youngest daughter Rinea, and only son and youngest child, Nikolai. The family fell into debt shortly before Rinea's birth, spending most of their wealth on expanding their land and spoiling their daughters. After Rinea was born, they were extremely desperate to find a way to work their way back up the social ladder. It was Peter who suggested leaving Rinea to be babysat by a maid and butler duo while they searched for suitors for their three oldest daughters.
By the time Rinea was about eight years old, her sisters were all married. Rinea's parents were planning on lining up suitors for Rinea at this point, however, her mother became pregnant yet again. They decided to wait it out until their next child was born to decide who Rinea would marry. When the baby was born they discovered it was a boy, who they named Nikolai. Since this was their first and only son, they soon forgot about finding Rinea a husband, and rather focused on finding a wife for Nikolai, so they can finally have an heir the Svanenhielm name.
For the remaining years of her life, Rinea was the forgotten daughter of the Svanenhielm family. They rarely cared for her, while most of the servants became her caretakers and friends. This lead to Rinea's reclusive and private personality, she took up gardening while spending time with the gardeners, and started dancing when she watched her oldest sister Magnhild take dance lessons.
The Svanenhielm family still remained low on the social ladder, but finally gained enough attention to be invited to a royal ball, hosted by the emperor of Rigel himself. Rinea's entire family attended. Her oldest sisters were busy dancing with their husbands, her parents were together, and her younger brother was off dancing with his fiancee. Rinea remained a wallflower for a good portion of the night, avoiding any type of conversation with anyone. However, word got around about her very fast, since most people weren't even aware that Peter and Ingrid Svanenhielm had a fourth daughter, and that her beauty was the most outstanding out of all of the daughters. Eventually, a servant even pointed her out to the emperor's nephew and heir to the throne, Lord Berkut. At just a few glances, Berkut was instantly interested in Rinea. Berkut himself approached Rinea, and requested that they dance. Rinea believed that they would only dance once that night, but they ended dancing the entire night away. The two instantly clicked, despite their contrasting personalities. When the night ended, Rinea's family finally showed interest in her for the first time in years. Her sister Freya was slightly jealous that Rinea had a chance to marry the crown prince, while the rest of the family was very excited for her.
Rinea and Berkut found many ways to communicate, through letters, messengers, and occasionally Berkut would stop by her manor when he was traveling through town. Eventually, the two began courting. While her family was happy that she'd be soon engaged to him in order to bring worth to her name, Rinea was more interested in Berkut simply for himself. Within just a few months, the two became engaged, and while her family remained stingy, Rinea simply enjoyed her time with her soon to be husband.
When the war between Rigel and Zofia began, it delayed Rinea and Berkut's wedding. At first, she was a bit saddened by the fact. Rinea is patient, however, and decided it would be alright to wait for the war to be over in order to marry Berkut. While the war raged, Rinea became a major support system for her fiancee, and avoided to become involved in any battles if possible.
Rinea was heavily criticized by Fernand for quite a while when he joined Berkut's side. This made it very difficult for Rinea to be able to interact with Berkut at times, since Fernand's presence intimidated her. When Berkut became aware of this, he scolded Fernand's behavior, and ordered him to apologize. From that point forward, Fernand and Rinea got along much better, but she remained hesitant to speak with him.
Up until the death of Emperor Rudolf, Rinea remained to be a very minor role in royal affairs. However, when he passed and it was revealed that Alm was the true heir to the throne, Rinea was truly very shocked. While she allowed Berkut to have some time alone, Rinea was nearly immediately bombarded by her family. Since Berkut was no longer the heir, her family was very upset and disappointed, her father even suggesting that she cancel her marriage with Berkut and instead, arrange one with Prince Albein. This stressed Rinea out beyond belief, and she eventually left her family behind in order to find her dear Berkut, at the bottom of Duma Tower.
Rinea arrives to the basement of the tower, stressed and desperate to find her fiancee. When she discovers him, she immediately softens up, and attempts to approach him. This is where she discovers that he's unhinged and she becomes very worried for his well being. She's aware of his situation, of course, and she attempts to bring him back to reality. Rinea begs him to step away from the altar, to reject Duma. She tells him that she'll always be by his side, no matter what happens; that he'll be her emperor. This causes Berkut to slowly regain his sanity. He thanks her for helping him, and Rinea opens up her arms, and they embrace.
Fernand shortly arrives, to find his lord and lady hugging by the altar. Alm and the army soon approach after Fernand, and once Berkut realizes Alm is in the audience, he remembers what made him so angry in the first place. He challenges Alm to one final battle, in which Rinea and Fernand join their lord, and fight by his side. Alm is reluctant, but Berkut leaves him with no other option. However, the trio is severely outnumbered by the army, Rinea in particular is exhausted from expelling so much energy after not fighting for such a longer period of time. Berkut eventually recognizes Alm as ruler of Rigel, and finally surrenders to him. The three do not join in the final battle due to Berkut and Fernand's pride. However, Rinea states that she would have loved to support them in battle, if it weren't for her exhaustion.
After the war, Rinea finally found her voice in the new world of Valentia. She fully supported King Alm and Queen Celica, and even attended their wedding and coronation (she brought Berkut, much to his dismay.) She has strayed from being Berkut's beautiful fiancee, to Lady Rinea, more involved in the politics of the land. Since she is able to control Berkut's temper, and Fernand follows his lord's commands, Alm and Celica listen to her ideals and suggestions. Her family, despite their previous desperation for wealth, have come to accept their daughter as she is, and could not be more proud of her.
Personality
While uncomfortable around most strangers, Rinea still tries to put up a pleasant and polite front. She seems to feel a lot of pressure to be an "acceptable" fiancee to Berkut, even though she dislikes public life. She often frets a lot about her choice of words and being what is considered appropriate in her department.
Being the daughter of a minor Rigelian noble family that is not well-off, financially or in social standing, her discomfort with court life is exacerbated. She does, however, love to dance, and also enjoys nature and being outdoors. While typically fairly soft-spoken, if Rinea has an opportunity to talk about something she likes, she will become much more animated and verbose, a trait she is rather ashamed of.
The whole ordeal of war is as uncomfortable and alien to her as court life, but she sticks it out to stay by Berkut's side. He's the only person she opens up to, and conversely, Rinea is the only person Berkut opens up to.
